I have always enjoyed working with women. I am passionate about women and the power we have to make the world a better place. I recently read the book Lean In. I had heard and read a great deal about it and it peaked my desire to take action. My sister is the Director at a retreat center called Rosaryville Spirit Life Center. She offered to sponsor a Women's Series so we made it happen!
On Friday June 7th, 13 women came together for a program called The Power of Stories. It was an incredible experience. The group was comprised of successful business owners, elected officials, volunteers, business women, young sorority women, and a recent high school graduate. I can honestly say, the day was more than I could have ever asked for. From the opening introductions, the interaction, honest emotion, and sharing between multiple generations of incredible women was a great learning experience for me and I believe for them as well.
Stories were shared about the gift and power of friendship, determination, change, community, and success. In some ways, I know I did not expect the pure honestly and compassion we experienced. That group of women, like all women, have the power to change the world around them.
Lesson Learned:
- When asked who you are - "I am a Leader" - no hesitation!
- Friendship can heal a broken heart
- Life allows us to give back when others have given to us
- As women we have so much to share and can learn from one another - generation to generation
- When given the opportunity to learn about yourself, take it.
No matter who you are, how old you are, or what you do in life, your story is worth telling and could change the life or lives of those you encounter. Tell your story, tell someone else's story - you never know when it could touch another. Celebrate being a woman and believe in the Power of Your Story!
Peace and Love,
