What They Teach Us...

Grandparents are the greatest gift to this world. They love us, teach us, and in many ways, help us to dream.  My Maw Maw and Paw Paw were great examples to us.  Their work ethic was work hard for what you want in life.  They taught us to be civic minded. We did community service by helping at church, helping in the community, hosting a community Easter Egg that our family sponsored and did all of the work for just to have something for everyone to come together and do as a community.

My Maw Maw is probably the reason I had a love for academics even though she did not graduate from high school. She was an advt reader and dreamed with me. She would tell me to see the world and to believe I could do anything I wanted to do.

My Maw Maw and Paw Paw (Roy and Bernie Despeaux) were born on the same day one year apart.  I always thought that was special in that they shared that important day. Like all of us, they had flaws, but they gave us love and they helped us have a better life.

I miss them on a a daily basis.  There are little things that remind me of them:  two doves that visit me, my niece Callie uses one of my Paw Paw's old canes to help her walk, the way my Mom takes care of my nieces, my sister's gift of making beautiful flower arrangements, my love for travel, sitting on a swing, going in the bayou, and the list goes on.

I hope that all the world has someone to call Maw Maw and Paw Paw even for a short time.  It truly teaches you to appreciate the generation who gave us our present and future.

Peace and Love,
Mari Ann

Happy Birthday Maw Maw and Paw Paw
