Why Summer Camp?

Ever heard the word Summer Camp and just got excited? Well, you might be asking "why would a grown adult think about Summer Camp?"

Summer Camp to me brings back so many memories. As a kid, I went to day camps in Buras, LA. It was a time to play, swim, do arts and crafts, eat snacks, and just have fun!  As an adult, I have had the opportunity to work with children at summer camps and watch that same excitement in their eyes.  It might be making a new friend that you will take with you into your "out of camp" life, learning how to canoe, ride a bike, make gimp, sing new songs, or just figure out something special about yourself.

"It's Called Camp Abbey" was that place for me for 10 summers.  I was "Church Lady" on extended staff and I learned a great deal about myself at Camp Abbey.  Although I do not actually work at Camp Abbey any longer, I love that kids are having the opportunity to grow up there and that the spirit of Camp Abbey lives on.

This past summer I was also introduced to another camp called Camp Kateri. This camp also offers an opportunity for kids to grow, learn and have fun.

Both camps offer the opportunity for children to meet God through others and what a better way to spend the Summer!  I saw campers, counselors and staff who provided a safe and loving environment for kids.  If you have children, please make certain they are given the opportunity to share a camp experience with other children. It will make such such a difference in their lives.

Until next Summer, Happy Camping!
